CHIRK CELEBRATIONS COMMITTEE(incorporating Chirk Christmas Festivities)The Chirk Christmas Festivities was an ad-hoc group formed to try and provide reasonable Christmas lighting and celebrations, such as the 'Late Night' opening at Christmas in Chirk.  The group had struggled for various reasons eg. Funding, to improve the lighting over the years and it is at this point that we would like to recognise the help from Chirk Town Council who have under-written some of the costs that have been incurred.  It was therefore decided that when the Chirk Celebrations Committee was formed, following the success of the Jubilee celebrations, it would take on board the Christmas lighting as one of it's objectives.This doesn't,of course, solve the problem overnight.  Such lighting needs funding and although we may feel this should be the responsibility of local authorities, there is a limit as to how much they have at their disposal to spend on projects such as these.The objective of the Celebrations Committee is to provide a means and make arrangements for social events for members of the community of Chirk.  In doing this, one of the main aims is to raise money either from L.A/other grants and from social events, such as this Fund Day, to purchase/hire Christmas Lights which will reflect Chirk's standing in the community.Various other events are planned during the year

All of the infrastructure is in place and most of the lightrs have been purchased,

2006 saw the the completion of the Coronation Oak with additional lights being added annually.
